San Diego Outrigger

Winter 2008-09

SDOCC closed out the 2008 OC6 racing season with a stellar performance at the Offshore Catalina 9-man Channel Crossing, finishing in 4th place Women Bradley Division! hoo-ya! We had a great season all the way around, and are looking forward to taking a little time off the water this winter. Some of us are post-season training for an event in November we were invited to participate in with some Marathon friends from the Mid-west. We'll be taking a few of our gals to the Cook Islands this year! Always looking for a new race to travel to, and when that invite came up it was a no-brainer! Our winter is also geared toward solo and tandem racing on oc1 and oc2 canoes. In the event we do have a recreational paddle this winter- feel free to email us and leave your contact so we can get back to you about times and dates.

SDOCC hosts the SoCalOceanRacing Series premiere race on NOVEMBER 8th at beautiful La Jolla Shores! On-line registration is currently available via active.com on the series website.

Please join us at that event, or we'll see you at Novice Orientation in February!

San Diego...Hoo-ya!

San Diego Outrigger has been an important part of the California Paddling scene. In the club's fifteen year history, we've seen our share of victories. Our team consists of men and women who are passionate about this great sport. Our skill levels cover all ranges from Olympic class athletes to the recreational paddler.

Most importantly we like to have fun. Nothing is better than a fourteen to twenty mile race in the warm California sun and surf. San Diego Outrigger Canoe Club is always looking for fun, team-oriented people.

Outrigger Canoeing is rapidly becoming the most competitive water sport along the west coast, with nearly 24 clubs in Southern California and 17 in Northern California. With all divisions available for both men and women, Outrigger Canoe racing is one of a few totally co-ed water sports.

Divisions
Each race is usually divided as follows:

  • Novice (men and women): 6 person teams of those who haven't paddled in a SCORA outrigger season before.
  • Open Spec (men and women): 6 person teams of experienced paddlers in a SCORA Spec canoe.
  • Open Bradley (men and women): 6 person teams of experienced paddlers in a Bradley canoe.
  • COED: 6 person teams of paddlers, 3 men and 3 women per canoe.
  • Masters (men and women): 6 person teams of old paddlers.
  • Senior Masters (men and women): 6 person teams of very old paddlers.
